Apparently an "LSD" wont solve wheel hop, it will only raise the level of acceleration needed to induce wheel hop.

I don't understand the situation where a viscous LSD can act in this way. Wheel hop is mostly (if not only) felt during a hard launch from stand still (my 5th gen can suffer bad wheel hop). During a heavy launch if both wheels spin at the same rate a viscous LSD wont be doing anything because as far as the LSD is concerned both wheels are spinning at the same rate and need no assistance. A viscous LSD will only operate where one wheel is spinning faster than the other. Unless your suspension bushes are are so shagged that they are uneven and allow one wheel to "hop" inside its wheel well more than the other side :? Even then the operation of the viscous LSD would be on/off/on/off.

Also a viscous LSD will not pull the car through a corner. A viscous LSD will only operate where one wheel is spinning significantly faster than the other ie when you hit a loose or slippy surface with one wheel. The difference in wheel speed given by turning alone is not enough to activate the viscous LSD.

Cheers guys, :) my only problem at the moment is the mechanic is giving me grief saying it's not the right box. I've told him it came off an A5 and so it will fit. He grumbled a bit. What other differences does he need to know besides the two bolts at the bottom of the gearbox aren't needed as they are for location only and the A5 doesn't have the hols for them?

The M2B4 came off the 4th gen H22a so its closest UK relative is the H22a2. I have never put a 4th gen gearbox on a 5th gen bit I think Alex has so It would be worth while speaking to him. There are some differences in the flywheel inspection/gearbox stiffener between the two engines.

Ask Alex how they were fitted to his car. I don't know specifically but wasn't there an issue with the way the 4th gen gearbox is offered up to the block/oil sump?

ADS1: I'm detecting sarcasm! :)

No sarcasm intended bud, just that I have two bb4s, one has lsd, and one doesn't. And I notice no difference between the two. As has been said, it must be something you only notice on track? :D
