It depends what you want. Good acceleration low down, good acceleration in the higher gears, an OEM LSD, the ability to accept aftermarket parts etc... and what your budget is

For a track car the U2Q7 is probably the best all rounder, decent ratio's, 4.266 final drive and torsen LSD. However if you plan going all out (aftermarket final drive and LSD) then the M2F5 is one of the best.

You can pick up U2Q7 gearboxes for £200-£300.

The U2Q7 is the the same as what is found in the 99+ 5th gen Preludes (M2P4), apart from it has a torsen style LSD in it. Compared to regular UK gearboxes the U2Q7 and M2P4 have a higher final drive, 4.266 Vs the regular 4.062, resulting in quicker acceleration. Also these two gearboxes have shorter gear ratios in 2nd and 3rd which allows quicker acceleration too. The down side to all of this is higher RPM on the motorway. The only other slight downside is that rev drop from 3rd to 4th is not ideal, unless you redline it you may fall out of VTEC, but it was not a huge issue for me.

I prefer the M2P4 in my 5th gen to all the other stock UK gearboxes I have used (M2F5 & M2V5) as it is much easier to drive in town as you can stay in 3rd more easily. Having a U2Q7 would be exactly the same but with the addition of an LSD.

A U2Q7 would be perfect for your needs.

Or use the m2u4 and retrofit ATTS onto your block.

The M2P4/U2Q7 and the T2W4 ratios are the same up to 5th gear, with the T2W4 being slightly taller. Bigger the number shorter the gearing.
