Is it an automatic by any chance? perhaps the neutral switch is the cause of non starting...

Today's update involves no joy, but called Honda who have suggested I take the car and the keys to them, so they can resync the keys in exchange for £75, so actually fairly pleased with that.
Hopefully that will allow the car to start, but may well still need to fix the intermittent issue where it doesnt want to start at all.
Wont know until it has been to the dealership though, so will hopefully have a proper update on Friday.
Thanks again for all your help.

For a key re-sync at main dealer, yep, that probably is less than I might have expected!

The intermittent problem will be tough to trace down - the only way of confirming the fault will be to fault find it when it's 'in fault mode'.

How often was it doing it?

It's hard to say how often, as sometimes it started 1st time every time, and others wouldn't start at all, leave it for a bit and it would then start.
The car doesn't get used that often as it's my wife's 2nd car and as she's still working at the moment, she doesn't use this one (although being selfish, I want to use it!)

Right, latest update.
I feel like an idiot!
Thought I'd just do 1 more check before calling the aa to get the car to the honda dealership.
Turns out I am an idiot, as couple of taps on the starter motor, and she fires in to life (the car, not the wife!).
Thankfully nothing wrong with the immobiliser or the keys.

Good to hear it was something simple!

In the past, i used a little trick with no tools to help someone in a similar situation. Removed an indicator bulb , and pulled off the small spade terminal to the starter solenoid. Held the bulb to earth whilst pressing the spade terminal to the bulb tip, and asked him to crank it. Bulb illuminated confirming no immobiliser issues (in this case, he had put the wire on a redundant , not connected terminal).

Ordered a new starter which I'll be collecting tomorrow, so hopefully that will sort it.

I love threads like this.
An issue.....everyone suggests complicated fixes, could be this, could be that, bit of this, bit of that, 4th gen this, 5th gen that......issue solved...it was a fuse or a big hammer fixed it.

We have all been there.

I had an issue with a banging noise whilst driving from the front. Couldnt figure it out. Spent ages trying to sus it and check driveshafts, gearbox etc..

Turned out to be a couple of very loose wheels nuts.

The annoying thing was, I hadn't even thought about the starter, but trusty hammer to the rescue!
