I like it like this. Even though it's harder to keep it on cam because the cut-in is at higher revs, the surge is fun can occasionally be quite handy.
True enough- I just got fed up with having to rev my ATR to within a gnats of the rev limiter to keep it in VTEC though...
Also true.
My preference would be to lower the threshold by a smidgin, maybe down to 5600 or 5500, but no lower. I'm just not inclined to spend money on a controller.

Im not keen on the harsh changeover myself. it shows that the map has been fuddled with to drop a little torque just before VTEC so you get that surge.

much better to have a smooth curve and a soft changover imo. mainly because you are actually getting to point B faster.
I dont know about anyone else but i rarely drop out of vtec when im having fun. you just need to take the revs higher

 I think the dropping out of VTEC issue is ATR specific- its the only Honda I know to be so critical with it....

No fear of dropping out, mine's at 3,800rpm :o :-D

I've heard that before about the ATR though, guess it's a just a mix of the particular setup, as Phil says down to ratios too.

Ha, that did make me
Just the standard ones Phil, it's just what works on my setup.
Rich said it's a bit of a freak as I actually get what feels like a change at about 5.5 - 6k, and he's only seen it once before, also on an A8 with a Solid Fabs mani. Reckons it could be down to the way the mani is made :?:

It's very smooth though and the noise is more than the kick, I was worried about being on teh motorway but of course VTEC needs a certain throttle % to activate, so just cruising in 5th is fine, all you do is put your foot down a bit and instant X-over :D

Its a Solid Fabrications one, by Alan, at errr Solid Fabrications :D (see here for piccies)

Before that I had it set at 4.5k, which is a sensible drop for a slightly tuned H22, I ran mine like that for years.
IIRC the Prelude is one of the few VTECS that has a very noticeable drop before changeover as standard, something to do with emissions and the 2.2 being a 'large' engine for Japan, so helps with mpg etc I believe.
Mine also has adjustable cam gears, wonder if that plays a small part too

Edited to say there's a dyno printout in that thread too, so you can take a butchers 8-)

Found this thread looking for manifold info.

Is an h22a7 manifold a direct fit on a bb1 h22a
please?
