LO :D

I got my Auto oil changed a year or two back , i bought the proper ATF stuff from Honda myself and got my local garage to change it.
Still luvly and Cherry red even now 8-) may do another change next year.
I have heard that a full flush is a bad idea on lots of US sites.

Cheers ;)

I tried Amsoil full synthetic in my Civic auto a while back - it was different to the stock Honda fluid but not necessarily better. Gearchanges were faster and more positive, the box felt in the right gear more, and the car seemed to accelerate slightly better. But the box became clonky and slightly jerky, so it was swings and roundabouts really...

Hi guys I run I transmission company in West Yorkshire

The best way to change the fluid in these auto boxes is to get them well above operating temp if poss then drop the fluid out of the sump

I advise to get some dextron 3 and re fill
Then run for a day or so and repet
Do this about three times and all will be well aslong as you have no slipping clutches

Nobody will be able to get all the fluid out of the box not even honda without doing a full strip and rebuild

Just remember you can't change the internal filter on thes boxes with out doing a full strip down

if its like my lude when I bought mine the filter was full of silt and friction mater . This filter had done 118000 and been on the car for 15 years
This is the main reason why these boxes fail as the filter clogs and staves the box . The box then runs on lower preasure and every thing just burns out

Don't take my word for this. However, I have only ever used Dexron in my four Honda Autos (pre 99's)

Never a prob. This Lude has 144k. and 40k on my dexron. They are very good boxes. It is just unfortunate that the design like so many others does not give access to filter. IF the transmission was unsuitable for Dexron I don't believe Honda would tell you to put it in, even temporary. They would tell you not to put it near this transmission...........EVER!

Just my take.

Did a 3 litre change on my 4G a couple of days ago using Honda ATF. The washer was £3.90 from my local dealer. Gearchanges are smoother now and kickdown is quicker.

On a fun drive the box was kicking down and hitting vtec a lot quicker than before, not bad for a total spend of £55!
