If it is the auto tensioner that's failed, you'll be better off going for a manual tensioner. Performance autoworks will be your best bet for getting one fitted.

I've had some feedback from the garage, it was the auto tensioner that failed and its caused the valves/pistons to collide, looking at £1000 to fix up.
the lude is on eBay as I haven't got the money to fix her up

that sucks - you get the cambelt changed and the auto tensioner fails
ive had the same but it happen about 10 years ago after cambelt change at main dealer - no damage tho - car still goes.
i know you have put it up for sale but you may want to consider dropping in a 2nd hand engine instead.

I'm not sure how they found out but they had it all out, but didn't remove the head. How would you check it? Compression test? I wasn't in vtec no, but it was knocking at idle before it got to the point where it wouldn't start.
Could I have some pointers? The car has the cam cover off, auto tensioner and associated pulleys off.
Cheers peeps

Slap a new belt and tensioner on it and im sure it will be fine. As said if you were not in VTEC when the tensioner failed more than likely everythign is fine.
According to the documentation that came with my 5th, its auto tensioner failed at 50K. It got a new tesnioner, and it has done another 50K without issue.
Also take wild theories from garages with a pinch of salt
