how much is the engine costing? you will pick up a secondhand flywheel easily off ebay there are a few available after upgrade to a lighter one just get a normal h22 clutch for now the problem you will have is the ecu as yours being ukdm will be linked to your key and immobiliser so you will need the ecu and key and ignition barrel from a uk h22 or a jdm ecu without use of your immobiliser

That was going to be a question I was about to ask, ECU? To be honest the cheapest & easiest way you are going to get an H22 is simply by buying a manual VTi and sell your 2.0L.mercutio wrote: problem you will have is the ecu as yours being ukdm will be linked to your key and immobiliser so you will need the ecu and key and ignition barrel from a uk h22 or a jdm ecu without use of your immobiliser
On top of the cost of the engine there is a whole load of stuff that you would be silly not to sort while you are there.
So you are looking at having to get at least an ECU, keys and ignition barrel, door and boot locks, exhaust manifold, clutch kit, flywheel, timing belt, balance shaft belt, possibly water pump, possibly auto tensioner or H23 tensioner conversion, air intake?, new air filter, distributor, spark plugs, axillary belts, front brake callipers, new discs, new pads, gearbox fluid, brake fluid, oil, oil filter, coolant............................ With fast and loose accounting that is about £900.
If you are fitting the engine yourself IMO it's a two day job to swap the engine and get it all sorted out, even with the correct tools and enough space. Who knows what your local garage would charge.
Basically the cost of your whole car + new engine + all the other bits of crap far exceeds the cost of buying a VTi.
I was knocking on the door of £500 just for a clutch & timing belt change and associated bits. That was doing the job ourselves.
Yeah, buying a VTI will be cheaper. But you won't have a new clutch, timing belts and fluids on a random used VTI. Both options should be considered.
I need a confirmation: it was stated that JDM 5th gen does not have the immobilizer system, right? Or did I miss something?
