If you do need to change the clutch then cost of atr clutch kit from Honda is £135 plus vat. ATR clutch kit will also fit your lude and @Merlin recently fitted one to his 5th gen.
A lot of folk use amsoil mtf to help deal with 5th gear crunch but i see you had the fluid changed not that long ago so i dont know if you want to go down that route again.

Guys,
Please accept an apology? I've not really been on here in a couple of weeks as I've been occupied with some life stuff. Really sorry I haven't responded to anyone after you've replied.
Not good form.
Hopefully I can get you all a beer at some 'lude event in future.
Now I better read the replies...
and Thanks.

Jez

Hmmm. Cheers, Phil. A thoughtful (and provoking) analysis. I'm guessing a bent selector fork might be a hideous cost due to gearbox-out goodness?4thgenphil wrote:struggling to get reverse and 5th, sounds mightily like a bent selector fork in the gearbox to be honestcommon on early atr's, maybe because they get more abuse then old man 5ths.
i maybe, and i hope i am wrong, it could be the clutch, either a loose spring on the friction plate stopping the clutch being fully engaged/disengaged ut i would have thought you would have felt it, i did when mine did this.
i'd be suprised if the clutch went again so quickly unless they used naff parts previously, but if the car has done less than 5ok and has had a clutch change to me it means one of two things, a; it was beat on pretty hard by the previous owner which could have resulted in scenario one or, b; it was replaced to try to rectify an issue in the past which also leads me to scenario one![]()
or the clutch wasnt fitted properly 7k mies ago
On the loose spring thing... it does seem.... inconsistent... sometimes. Not sure what I would feel.
Looking at this and some other responses I'm starting to think maybe I should begin with the cheaper/simpler stuff and work my way up. Maybe.

Thanks again

Previous experience I've had problems with the clutch slave cylinder. Popped a new one on and it worked fine. That's only if it gets to the point of not going in gear at all.
As for the crunching mine does it all the time in 3rd only. Sometimes on cold weather have to double clutch to get it into 1st. How do you change the gear box oil/fluid?

Thanks, Iain.wurlycorner wrote:Going off just these symptoms;
Problems going into 1st, reverse and 5th, never liked any fast gear changes and long biting point... it would be worth trying bleeding the clutch cylinder first, as a simple/quick attempt to fix it. Not much effort and nothing lost if it doesn't help. (Might as well bleed through all new fluid for the small amount it takes).
If that doesn't fix it and the clutch was only changed 7k miles ago and you have the receipt, I'd take it back to the place that did it and suggest to them that they might like to take a look..?
Could be any of the things everyone has suggested, but fingers crossed not that serious
I'm starting to think, given yours, Merc's and other's comments, that the way to go is to do this first anyway. Like you say, not much to lose and my expectation that it's worse could be unfounded.
I think the round trip to the replacement clutch garage is maybe £180 in fuel, and it's over a year, so I've kind of written that one off. In principle you're right, but in practice I lack the faith to think it's a good risk. Call me a defeatist

Cheers

It does sound like the ATR kit is the way to go, if it comes to that.
Yep, I think having just changed the transmission fluid I'll leave it for now. Having said that, if other action fixes everything else I may reconsider...
Cheers
