Fitted a new distributor but wait for it... the wrong one. Apparently out here in t'tropics it's not as clear cut getting parts ordered that you actually need. Anyway, he fitted a new distributor but because it's not the right spec now my bloody rev counter has stopped working.
"No problem" (ha ha ha, the get out of everything phrase) he said, " I've ordered the proper one so it should be here Wednesday"
(That remains to be seen...)
"But what about the vibration that's now occurring shaking the car to bits and removing all the fillings from my teeth?" I asked him. "Don't worry, the new distributor will sort everything out for you" he replied.
Oh my Lord - where is all this going to end up?
Wasn't it Luke Skywalker that famously said, " I've got a bad feeling about this"
(I know how he feels)

If its a JDM vtec 4th gen you have then the distributor part number is TD-60(U). Hope this helps :)

Thank you for that vanzep. He's actually coming to pick up the car today to fit the (hopefully) correct distributor. I'm going to write that part number down and verify it with him so there's no more messing about.
Thanks again and fingers crossed this is one hurdle we're over.
Next it's a complete re-do of the suspension. Gulp.

Thanks again vanzep. Got it back yesterday afternoon and it's like night and day! The new distributor (TD-60U, I checked and there's a sticker on the top of it which confirms that part number) is working great.
There's none of the low end stutter and it runs as smooth as you like. Brilliant. He also fitted a new O2 sensor which was seriously wonky so all in all a good days work!
I'm so chuffed with it as it really does run well, thanks for all your info gentlemen, much appreciated.
Now, onwards and upwards to the suspension and the engine mounts which I've been told are passed their sell by date.

Good info here, thanks for updating, a dizzy is one of the few things I have not yet done, the one spare I do not have. Will do a dizzy swap and update here.

Hi Bri, well it worked like a charm for me (and certainly the O2 sensor seems a vital cog in this particular wheel) so I hope a new distributor and sensor work for you.

thats great news that you got it fixed Simon ;) some of us with idle issues havent been so lucky...
ive had a few idle issue like @Bri - i found that the spade connector on the front of the alternator had a bad connection as the terminal had broken -fixed that-then found that the car stalled if i moved the passenger seat back or forwards - this was traced to a bad connection in one wire to the ecu - problem is still there slightly just after its warmed up the revs will drop to about 450rpm but its not stalling now its just stuttering slightly and does it only once. Its liveable with but im going to try fitting a new alternator. Oh and ive cleaned egr valve, fitted new battery, new manifold, checked type s intake for splits etc etc. Like Bri ive tried loads of things and each thing ive done seems to slightly improve things but i will not be happy until it is 100 percent :)

same here, I opened up an old 5th gen dizzy to look inside, there are 4 separate sensors/units, will look into what they do. My idle issues have gone now, its fine, its just the lack of action when putting my foot down and flat spots where it feels just like fuel starvation, you can here the TB open but not a lot happens, certainly not what should happen anyway.

I will be trying a new fuel pump, hopefully injectors and a dizzy too, I already tried the O2 sensor, no difference made unless they are both screwed.

I think I will have a party when I finally nail it!
