judders badly at anything above 2500rpm
i did notice that the chip is tight against the round thingy next to it - so ive bent that back a fraction and pushed the chip down a bit more - going to go back out and try it again
will clean it all up at the back - the guy that did the soldering checked that all connections were good
i not keen on turning the chip around as it says to fit one way only and thats correct how its fitted at the moment.... :?

Scorch marks are just flux that is released from the solder when desoldering and soldering :P

Try your substitute ECU and go from there. The only way to be sure is to test each pin individually, and this is not easy with it having double sided print.

Also, he may not have penetrated to the other side of the PCB, being double sided the connection could have to be made on the opposite side to the photo you posted (chip holder side).

Can you get a close up picture of the soldering on the other side of the PCB?

Also, do not put the chip in the other way around, this will cause a burning smell and/or bright lights!!!

Applying 12v to the wrong pin of an integrated circuit will cause damage, whether it be the chip itself or the supply!!!

bristol bb4 - hmmm no need - chip is deffo right way as it is - instructions say carrier and chip MUST be located one way and one way only. Ive pushed the chip into the carrier a bit more and going to check it out now.

Bluejack-writing is facing same way as in your photo. Will need to remove the chip to take a photo of the soldering on that side of the pcb.
