I've only gone and done it... 2.5 days

Put it all back together and she fired right up. Woohoo!

Hmm. Pants. Severely down on power, so I'm assuming it wasn't precisely at TDC. It looked like it, but perhaps it slipped a toothsworth when installing the belt.

Is there a way to lock the cams in place (also the crank pulley)? I have the timing toolkit mentioned earlier but couldn't see that there were holes for the locking pins... do we have these on the H22A? Or is there another locking tool?

Your help is as always much appreciated...

Can use 5mm drill bits or similar to lock the cams but it's not very strong so have to be careful. Crank has no way of locking it as far as I know.

Your kit might have the pins depending how thick they are.

Thank you. Yeah the kit came with the pins, but The Internet hasn't told me where they go.... where precisely are the holes?

There are a couple of holes in each of the plates that go over the cams - you need two pins (one on each cam) that are about 4.5mm/5mm dia. You can lock the balance belt with the one of the tools in the kit. You have a crank pulley holder tool and you can get something to fit to it and brace it against the ground. On occasion we have also got a pry bar in against the teeth of the flywheel. When i first did the manual tensioner conversion on my BB4 the cams were out and had to be redone.

Make sure you turn the engine 3 or 4 times and check all the marks line up before putting the covers back on and putting the crank pulley bolt tight

OK so nearly there. Took it all to bits again, lined it all up nicely and put back together.

The engine runs sweetly now... BUT there's nothing right at the bottom of the rev range - when pulling away from a junction for example. The engine doesn't hesitate or labour, just doesn't pull straight away. Fine throughout the rest of the revs, vtec engages etc without issue.

So, I gave it a new set of spark plugs - the other ones looked pretty ropey and I might have dropped one of them :cough:

Then, I noticed there was a lot of slack in the throttle cable. I tightened this up - but that got me thinking. If it got pulled during the work, could it have gone out of whack at the other end i.e. the pedal end? Could it be something as simple as that?

The other thing is one of the bolts that holds the rocker cover on has a stripped thread since taking it on and off(middle one at the cam pulley end) - so possible vac leak?

As I say the engine seems pretty happy otherwise so I'm thinking the timing is fine now.

Ideas / thoughts / suggestions??

More I think about it I'm leaning towards vac leak caused by that confounded valve cover bolt. Where can I get one? The only ones I've located so far are in America.

Ive got spare valve cover bolts - there are two different sizes so just need to know if its short one or longer one

I might be able to check one of the heads i have here tomorrow morning.
Will pop it in the post to you on Monday.
