Lude Generation

Right, I managed to pretty much get most of the exhaust fitted (all I need to do is the backbox to center section tomorrow). Been on it since around 10am today, long story! Old exhaust came off easy, but I had a bit of trouble fitting the current one.

However, I couldn't get the o2 sensor unplugged from the new manifold so I figured I'd just use that one and swap it over at a later date. Problem is the o2 sensor doesn't plug in!! And I'm unable to remove it (I've soaked it with WD40 so hopefully tomorrow when I finish fitting everything it'll come off).

If I still can't remove it, will it be ok to drive to a garage without the o2 sensor plugged in and get them swapped over? I assume I'll throw a CEL and she'll just run rich?

you should be ok without it but you will need to bolt or plug the hole where its meant to go

Oh no there's one IN the downpipe at the moment, but the electrical connectors don't fit for some reason.

So if I can't remove it tomorrow it'll be a slow drive to the nearest garage on Monday to get em swapped over. Cheers bud

I can hardly move my body at the moment, I hope I can get the backbox to mate to the center section easily otherwise I'm stuffed

I know how you feel - ive just spent 7 hours working under the lude on the suspension upgrade - couldnt do the last bolt grrr
Backbox to centre section is a cinch compared to the downpipe and cat sections - so youve done the hard bit - rest up and youll be able to sort it out tomorrow no problemo Keep some fairy liquid nearby as this helps with fitting the rubber mounts.

Why not just use your old plug?! Chop the one off from the new dp and wire match the old and new? When I replaced my 02 sensor recently I had to do this because I used a 5th gen sensor which had a different plug, snipped the plug off and used my old one and haven't had a problem with it at all

The center section/backbox is a slide joint. It was the decat to center section slide join that I spent a few hours on! I got it together but the flange was at a slightly different angle to the downpipe one and I couldn't twist it or remove it. So off came (after a few hours) the decat and center section again and we drove to my housemates stepdads house to use the vice to get them apart again! Lots of sanding and WD40 later (and fitting the bolted sections together *first*) it's mostly on.

So I'm a bit hesitant about it! But it's much shorter and much easier to get to so it should be fine.

Jay, if WD doesn't do it on it's own, break out the blowtorch. Heat worked a treat for mine

Don't have a blowtorch Definitely need one, would have helped immensely today. Stupidly fitted the decat to the slide join first, that was my big time waster.

My current exhaust is all still in one piece ha, header, and downpipe-back Might need a blowtorch to get that apart.

Not to mention it was alternating between sun, rain, hail and then snow all day
