Lude Generation

Hi guys. Started driving the car properly for the first time today so good i love it!!

One issue i have though, It doesnt happen all the time normally after ive restarted it (like going to a shop for a few minutes and then driving off)
But when im slowing down and press the clutch and take it out of gear the revs drops (as they normally do) but drop to like 100-200 rpm and the engine either saves the stall or stalls. It will have a run of stalling for while whenever i slow down but is fine after its stalled about 4-5 times. Do i need to adjust the idle speed or get it mapped? its still running its standard ECU map but has been modified a bit.

It also has problems warming up, the temp gauge only goes about 1/4 to 1/3 and only heats up when im in traffic. when i start driving again it goes back down to the 1/4 - 1/3 mark. Is that right?
I was thinking i might need to change the thermostat and check to make sure the fan works. It got a bit too hot when i drove it back and it started to overheat a little.

your heating problem is due to the thermostat staying open. change that and bleed the air out and this will sort that out.
you may even find this helps with the idle issue too.

Cheers for the help, i did think it was that, well if i buy one now il fit it on sunday when i do a coolant exchange

First off it might just be worth seeing if there's any air that needs bleeding out if the cooling system.

I'm going to do a coolant change at work on Sunday. We have one of those coolant exchange machines that suck it all out, hold a vacuum then fill it up again. I might change the thermostat then to be on the safe side.
How would i go about bleeding the the cooling system?
What size is the rad cap? By the looks of it i think its a 15mm one. Only wondering as i might buy a Mugen cap lol

Get your coolant system sorted and see how it goes mate - I take it the cutting out is when the engine is hot though? I had a similar problem on my B20A2 engined accord when I first got it. There's a way of adjusting your warm idle on these cars, but I wouldn't recommend adjusting anything until you've got the initial heating up problem sorted

Couldn't say what size the rad cap is, but it's normally a case of being one of two 'types'.

As for draining the system, you just remove the drain plug from the bottom of the rad.

Yeah il do all the adjusting after i do the coolant change, i need to get it mapped aswell due to the mods it has, does anyone recommend anywhere down south thats good and reasonable cost?

any half decent autofactor will have the correct cap in stock, when my new rad arrived it needed a larger dia. than the original Honda one fitted to the o.e. rad that was u/s, there's only the two main diameters, so I believe, the only decision to make is the pressure rating

Found out the reason of it cutting out. I changed the thermostat, replaced all the coolant which made it slightly better (still doesnt heat up properly)
But im pretty sure the cause is I've been using 95 octane fuel when i should've been using 97 octane. I put some octane booster in when i found out and its been running a lot nicer, so when i fill it up (with the correct fuel) hopefully it should sort itself out haha
