hi
I am new to ludegeneration and I'm wondering if anyone can help or has had a similar problem.
Well here's the problem. A few weeks ago I drove through a small but long puddle (about6-8 inches deep) and my pulleys slipped and ever since then I've had an engine tap. It sounds like it's in the head, its there at idle and up to about 4000 rpm but then it goes.... Vtec still engages and strong and there's no reduction in power... I've reset all the valve clearances but she still taps

I've been told it might be the LMAs but I have no idea tbh... any help would be greatly appreciated.
cheers
I drive a 98 5th gen btw 2.2vti motegi

Hi,
When you say the pulleys slipped, which pulleys do you mean and how do you know they slipped?

sounds like water pump to me, mine was tapping from the head for ages then I swapped the water pump and put on new timing belt and it disappeared

Hmm I wonder if I could just be the water pump but it doesn't over heat and the temperature doesn't go above normal...
its a horrible tapping noise, its worse when cold, is a rattly tapping lol hard to describe the noise really...

Can you video it on your phone and post up the video on youtube or photobucket or somewhere?

Hmmmmm.

. Could be LMA rattle but unlikely on a H22 tbh. Could be the auto tensioner gone rattly. They do create a racket that sound's "top end". Or maybe the distributor noisy. These are just ideas that we have seen come into our place.

thanks for the advice I just really want to find out what it is. its either that or get a h22a7. I shall take a video and put it on youtube and whack it on here lol maybe more helpful for people helping me diagnose it.

Have a look at the heat shield incase it's been loosened by the water.
