To Decat or not to Decat?

Post by Ammo » Thu Feb 23, 2012 4:53 pm

I'm swapping over exhausts between my UKDM and JDM as the exhaust on the JDM at the mo is way too loud (74db on tick over)
I'm hoping that the Janspeed exhaust on the UKDM will be quieter, do I swap over the Decat or leave the Cat in the UKDM exhaust for extra quietness?

cat on for extra quite - having said that i had a ukdm with cat on and it was louder than my jdm with decat :?
i think its more about how loud the system is - from what dbo says it seems the janspeed system aint too quite with or without.

i must admit i didn't decat for the noise but the engine feels a lot less choked without the cat. and now when i vtec in first and SLAM her up to second i get a nice 3 inch flame and a lovely POP :D
the cat takes away all the fun

I have my MOT in April and don't know if I should de-cat it or not :?

Ammo. I say do it as your car is old and won't need to pass the emission test?

No I don't need a cat for MOT as it's a 1993 BB4

Just gonna take it out for a spin with the Cat on see what it sounds like, I need the Cat for the UKDM once it goes in for an MOT so I'll have to decat mine at some point anyway. If I don't like it it's only 6 nuts to swap them over.
