new gearbox

Hi everybody
Just spent a grand on passing an mot and got told the clicky, fluttery noise is probably the gearbox going out. Do you have any advice on the cheapest option I have at the mo to sort this out? Could I get a second hand one etc? How much?

You can use a second hand one, you will be able to pick them up pretty cheap on here if it's a standard box and no LSD. But just so you know if you are getting it done in a garage the labour is around the 4 hour mark so bear that in mind

A grand!? What did you have to have done? Is it manual or auto? Either way if its internal manual gearbox issue eg new bearings, shims, or synchros probs cheaper to get replacement fitted and diy fix the old one using manual as a guide for disassembly and tolerances etc. as for auto!? Chuck it in the bin and get a manual!?

A grand was for 4 new tyres, back disks, pads and callipers and some other things.
DIY fix? No chance
not time, space, tools, skills, knowledge etc

i get a winey noise when changing gear and box is a bit clunky and struggle down shifting! changed the gear box oil when i carried out a full service got reccomended to put only honda transmisssion fluid by a friend in honda did improve but i know i will have to replace gear box at some point, seen them on ebay around £100 but will have to service it first.
i have a good friend at a garage which we will carry out the swap on a weekend (on the cheap) other wise will cost bucks i guess

@jsbach: I have a spare gearbox (or two) spare which I could sell you cheap. I'm assuming you do have a manual gearbox at this point, if you have a tiptronic auto then I won't be able to help unless you wanted to go down the route of changing it to a manual?
Mine is a M2A4 gearbox from a JDM 4th gen Prelude. It will fit the 5th gen H22A5, etc with no problems. Say £50?
I know you're fairly local in Corsham was it? You said you worked in St. George, Bristol in your intro, I live in Hanham, so you could quite easily pick it up to or from work.
