Well car has been playing up lately and not starting and killing battery so after trying to start it at work yestoday dinner for a hour of a mates car with jump leads i finally gave up and rung rac who told me 2 hours to come out but luckly i was at work so he turned up by 3.30pm an asked wat i had tried , i had even checked the fuel into injectors but that was fine so rac bloke decided first thing was to check spark so took off 4th lead an put his own spark plug in to check against engine then ask me to turn it over . To my amazement the stupid car even started without the lead on an made me look stupid

so we turned it off an put it all back on an tried many times an it started everytime so not sure wat was causing it or rac bloke is magical

but he did advise me to change distributer as he reckons they go all the time on ludes so i have fitted the one
@bludge Gave me at dinner and fingers crossed its running fine again
Will i ever finish this car ?

Shows what RAC know. The old "take off a lead and hold spark plug against engine" is what kills the H22 distirbutors. Not recommended practice for our cars!

Why is that. The distributor shouldn't see anything different? It sees spark plug, earthed through the head (or rocker cover, depending what you hold it against). No difference in resistance...

The problem is if it comes away from the engine at any point and loses the earth whilst you're doing it. Best way is to get a jump lead, and earth the plug in the jaws.
