FIGHT! Heatwrap showdown - Zircotec vs Thermo-Tec

I have searched the internet for hours looking at my options on these 2 ways of keeping heat within the header and out of the engine bay. Especiallu since i want to keep the supercharger as cool as possible.
I have found articles especially from the Ford guys comparing the 2 and both seem to work very well.

BUT

Here is "MY" Dilemma. Advantages and disadvantages for both options.

Zircotec CEREMIC primary black coating.

Advantages
- Its a ceramic coating so not a paint. Wont chip unless you chizzle it off.
- Proven well to do its job at keeping heat in the exhaust and heat out of the engine bay.
- Every part of the external header will be coated
- Practically weather proof
- No evidance of having adverse effects on the header like cracking or rusting.
- Looks good and you can see the header for what it is bar a different colour
Disadvantages
- I plan to get the header, collector and custom alumiuium air intake pipe coated This would cost in the region of £400ish for primary black
- 10 day turnover and my header is ON the car and i need to get it to a garage to get it off due to space under the car. This means the car will be at the garage for 10+ days maybe. Not sure my bro in law would appreicate that and im not having the car left outside his unit which is out of the way perfect for thieves. UNLESS i can remove the exhaust on the drive which might be a possibility.

Thermo-Tec Black heat wrap and black silicon sealant spray
Advantages
- Does what its suposed to do at keeping heat in zorst and heat out of the bay.
- I can wrap the header during a clutch change when the exhaust has to come off. It should be nice and easy.
- Looks good. I like wrapped header. But no super sexy welds will be visable.
- Will cost around £180 for all the materials
Disadvantages
- I have read countless of times that heat wrap will cause the header to crack or deteriorate fast. All these posts i have read say "iv heard this and iv heard that". I have never seen any evidence.
Plus is this on a cheap crappy header or cheap crappy wrap, not sealed and wrapped whilst on the engine causing wrapping difficulties. Again no evidence but people say it.

So whats your thoughts. My header cost me £900 so i want the best for it. Looks like Zircotec would be the choice but it all comes down to getting the header off on the drive. The collector needs to come off from under the car, then front engine mount out and pull the manifold up and out of the car.

I have looked at Camcoat. Way cheaper even for their ceramic coating but i have seen people slate them on service and the materials lasts months and is crap.

if it were me I would get it coated buddy you don't see many race or rally teams using wrap anymore and its not all to do with weight and some of the coatings can be applied inside as well as outside the manifold

Well this thread failed fast.........

Got a quote from Zircotec.
The manifold and collector will cost £338.40 inc VAT plus £25 TNT collection/delivery in primary black

I think the fight should be why spend £180 on the Thermo-Tec heat wrap kit instead of £30 on generic wrap + Thermo-Tec spray.

I am sure the coating will look badass. It is a lot of cash though.

I had a price from Ziroctec to do my manifold as well...
Zircotec wrote:For the manifold, the cost to coat is £160 (£192 inc VAT) for Primary Black™ or £262 (£314.40 inc VAT) for any from our Performance Colours™ range.
For the manifold and collector downpipe, the cost to coat £269 (£322.80 inc VAT) for Primary Black™ or £442 (£530.40 inc VAT) for any from our Performance Colours™ range.

Prices exclude shipping and VAT. Turnaround time is approximately 10 working days with payment accepted via credit card or bank transfer.
I really want the downpipe done as well, but definitely can't justify anything other than Primary black.

I emailed Camcoat just before Christmas as well... Didn't hear anything back

The camcoat stuff doesnt last apparently. The Lancer guys used them and the ceramic last a few months.

There is also Woof but again same thing.

I think im juts going to try wrap.

£30 will get Thermotec wrap but i need alot cos im doing the intake too. 2" x50ft x 2 will do the manifold, downpipe and air intake tube. Plus the spray and the ties etc.

£90 kit will do a 4 brank manifold i think but not sure.

I'm going to wrap my new manifold with DEI Titanium wrap. I've done this before on my previous exhaust manifold. It does not require soaking and I found out that it is very easy to wrap the manifold with it.

Here is the product I'm talking about:

i've wrapped plenty of manifolds with the cheap stuff and NEVER have i had any problems.

I use the 2" wide wrap, done nice and tight with wraps at the bottom.

once installed and cooked for the first time it works faultlessly..i can grab the manifold with no risk of getting fried.

£25 well spent.

i personally think it's more about the application rather than the product when it comes to this stuff.
