De cat f20a4

Okay guys so i had a search on the forums and couldnt find anything recent so heres the story..
About a week ago my 2.0 prelude (f20a4) became very quiet all of a sudden, it has an aftermarket backbox so was much louder before, and the car felt really restricted and down on power all of a sudden.. long story short i realised after a while that the catalyst converter is disintegrating with bits coming out the back and is really restricting power, i was wondering if i should go for a de cat pipe that bolts straight in place of the cat or just a cat, more the question - will i pass my MOT with a decat pipe? i was talking to a guy today saying he passed his evo not long ago with a decat pipe and that you dont need them for MOT currently... anyone have any advice? MOT is up in about a month so i need to know pretty soon if possible!
