Okay guys so i had a search on the forums and couldnt find anything recent so heres the story..

About a week ago my 2.0 prelude (f20a4) became very quiet all of a sudden, it has an aftermarket backbox so was much louder before, and the car felt really restricted and down on power all of a sudden.. long story short i realised after a while that the catalyst converter is disintegrating with bits coming out the back and is really restricting power, i was wondering if i should go for a de cat pipe that bolts straight in place of the cat or just a cat, more the question - will i pass my MOT with a decat pipe? i was talking to a guy today saying he passed his evo not long ago with a decat pipe and that you dont need them for MOT currently... anyone have any advice? MOT is up in about a month so i need to know pretty soon if possible!

Unfortunately your car will not legally pass without a CAT. Even if it does pass the emissions the MOT guy should be visually checking there is a CAT in place. But you may be able to find a sympathetic MOT tester

Also any CAT / DECAT from a 2.2 will fit your 2.0.

They guy you were speaking to may have had a pre 1995 EVO that is a Japanese import. Pre 1995 imports can go through a non-CAT emissions test.

MOT tester will see decat but it will allow car go for test as decat look like cat anyway, but you will probably not meet emission numbers.

better option is get some high flow cat and replace your damaged cat, you get win win as it will pass emissions and will allow better flow, but choose high flow cat wisely as its so many cheap out there who use ceramic inserts what will burn in month or two.

i have my old f20a4 ukdm cat available. not sure on the postage to ireland though.
