Gearbox choice on F20A4 5th gen.

Hi there.

My Lude is now at ~85000 miles so I may need to replace the clutch in 1/2 years.
I'm considering the option of a gearbox swap at the same time. The main thing I'm working on now is the chassis :
- Eibach spring
- Koni yellow
- H22 calipers
- OEM Brembo rotors
- DS2500 pads + RB600.
- OEM Type S front strut brace.
- Rear/front sway bar bushings (Energy)
- Radius rods bushings (Energy),
And soon wheels + tyres : Mugen MF8 + Federal RSR.

I use the Lude on little roads where I can reach ~80mph maximum, and on long trips 1 week per mounth. So I don't need a efficient 5th gear, exept on fuel consuption.
In conclusion I need a good compromise beetween comfort and sport driving.

So naturaly I was thinking about a LSD gearbox with short gears expect the 5th one. May be an EK3 5th gear would fit a U2Q7 gearbox ?
I've read the first type of U2Q7 gearbox have some problems with the 5th gear.
I've heard it was REALLY expensive to refresh a gearbox.
But it's no concrete facts. What would you think about it? Any advices ?

If there's some language mistake, please let me know.

Thanks :)

If you replace the 5th gear it is going to cost a load of cash anyway. If you only drive on long motorway trips once a month is it necessary to get the 5th gear swapped out? IF you want to go down this route the 5th gear out of an H23 or F22 would probably be better.

The final drive / 5th gear combo in the U2Q7/M2P4 is not that bad (the U2Q7 & M2P4 are the only UK gearboxes to have the shorter 4.266 final drive).

In fact I was thinking about replacing the 5th gear syncro to enlarge my choice of U2Q7 gearbox and I think a 5th gear of EK3 can be find for cheap. But I'm not sure it would fit.
I'm going for a full rebuild anyway, there is no way I spend hours and hours to install it if I'm not sure it works fine.
If you have any tips to make the rebuild cheaper, you're welcome. I have some contacts on the US that can receive and send me some packages from hondapartsnow.com, it can be a good way to reduce the total cost.

You may be waiting a while... My UKDM is at 130k and still on the original clutch. They do seem to last well on ludes?

 U2Q7's are ok I thought?

The M2B4 is known for 5th gear cruch issues.

Apparently there were a load of U2Q7's that suffered 5th gear crunch.

F20A4 5th gear is longer than Q7, but H23 5th gen is a bit lo ger.

That is the thing what I will do, was paning to pyt F20 5tg geaf but Ive get H23 so this is what I will fit in to my Q7. But is nit a straight fit, Q7 gear wheel is thiner that F20 or H23, about 5mm as far I remember, so yoy will not be able to put gearbox cover. To solve that problem, you need to slimmed 5th gear from F20/H23 based on diameters taken from Q7 wheel, mine is done, lay down on the shelf for fitting :)
