Lude Generation

hey guys, thought i had the worst behind me and i can proceed to do things i wana do the the lude but this has hit !
i was driving a long, pulled over and left the car running whilst i text someone, pulled away normally and the rev gauge started jumping, the engine went all splutery and misfiring. i thought at first one of the ht leads popped out as one keeps almost coming off so i pulled over and when its idling sounds like s**t! Ht leads were fine, everything seemed ok just that awful noise!
pretty much like the valves are hitting the pistons but not quite as bad if that makes sense, from what i can tell from my very limited experience like it has slipped a tooth and is struggling to run or could an injector failed? (no warning lights have come up on the dash :S). I know it happened to benny before does anyone remember what happened?
Its weird though it happened just pulling away and i wasnt doing anything stupid :/
Anyway, il tow the car to work and re time it and hopefully no damage has been done :/ if it has then the car will have to be taken off the road for a rebuild when i get the funds

For the cam to have slipped a tooth, the belt would have to be slack. If I remember correctly, the cambelt cover on yours is removed? So that would be easy to check - have a look to see if it is slack or not. If so, check the tensioner before you re-start it.

Otherwise, you have adjustable cam pulleys, right/ check one of those hasn't come loose, in which case it could put timing on one of them outof true.

First time.they'd not set the valve clearances up.
Second time it sucked some of the cambelt cover in and that caused it to skip 6 teeth apparently.

It says the inlet and exhaust cams were both set to 4degrees advance on initial build btw.

Sweet thanks for that, got my work cut out today, hopefully my boss doesn't mind me working on the car instead of fitting tyres butboh well needs to be done lol

The first time my cam gears were fitted years ago, they didn't tighten them properly , got near to home and the car started running like a dog, they had slipped as far as the adjustment would allow.

You had dodgy bolts on the cam gears anyway didn't you, so hopefully it's that. You've got pictures of where the cam gears were set previously so compare them to how they are now.

Are you able to set up a video recording with good sound for when you come to turning her over for the first time. It'll help us diagnose it. It's definitely not just running on two cylinders is it?...
