Lude Generation

A Little help please.

I need to refit the old exhaust on my daily. At some point it's been messed about with. One pipe is fine and should be, with flanges and connectors etc but the other one has been extended and the other side expanded to allow into slide inside.

Now im not sure how it was when it came off so I need to know how far into another exhaust tube another one has to goto constitute an acceptable seal.

Obviously the other side will be supplying a fixed point but willan inch and a half sleeve be enough on the other?

I would put up a pic but have no means tight now.

It's between the back box and mid section.

Obviously I'm no authority, but I'd say an inch and a half overlap is enough. Gives enough room to confortably get a clamp on..

Cheers. I have a flange and gasket rings coming. We should be ok. Time to quieten the beast down a bit.

An inch and a half should be more than enough.

So long as the outer pipe has slid over far enough to cover the full width of the clamp (plus about 5mm either side of that) and the full length of any slit along the side of the outer pipe, then no problems.

To further this, what are peoples opinions on exhaust paste? i have had my back box off lately and its the same deal, slides in. i have it clamped in place but is it worth using paste?

yes if you have no plans on trying to remove it for a while crack on with the paste

(seriously though, on exhaust paste... If you don't need to use it, don't - horrible stuff. If the joint is clean, it shouldn't be needed)
