Hi guys long time no see! Been so busy recently but now a lot of the parts are turning up for the lude its time to sort her out :D

I got my new cam pulleys (AEM Tru-Time Adjustable Cam Gears, 23-802BK) which i got told were suitable for my engine and they finally arrived today! Was so happy but then when i matched them up to the ones on the car atm there really small :/

the blue ones have 40 teeth and the new ones have 34. on the AEM site it says they can be used on a B20A5 so would they still be ok for mine? the blue ones were originally for a F22 so there not right anyway.

Just another thing, on the diagrams that came with the pulleys the slot with the key was at the top, with mine using the timing marks that are scratched on them the key is pointing straight down, which should i use when i put the new ones on?
Also how hard is it to get the bottom pulley off? will i need an air gun to get it off? my neighbour has one so i can use it if necessary.

Now im on the home stretch of getting her finished il be on here a lot more, she'll be done by next month so just in time for summer lol.

Cheers
Rob

Bottom pulleys can be a complete arse! Air gun would be good if you have the option.

I'd suggest it is quite possible your current cam pulleys are too big (looking at them they are VERY close together) but difficult to be sure of course. Jj might be able to compare?

Alternatively... Have you got a new cambelt? If so and you offer it up, is it the same length as existing, or shorter?
Where does the current belt tensioner sit? Is it in the middle of travel or right up tight? (if right up tight, that would suggest current belt is extra tight because the current pulleys are too big).

I think this is my B20A1

If somebody reminds me then I'll count the teeth on the pulleys over the weekend :)

If those existing pulleys were too big then the engine wouldn't run at all right. The crank would be out of sink with the cams and therefore the pistons would be out of sink with the valves.

... Unless the crank pulley had been increased in diameter/number of teeth by the same percentage, but that's 99.9% unlikely.

Looks like those new AEM ones aren't the right ones unfortunately :(

Of course, Nafe is exactly right, they'd need to be the same diameter/number of teeth, otherwise it wouldn't run...

That serves me right for replying when pissed

Yep, those aem can't be the right ones I'm afraid.

Ring them with correct number of teeth and diameter and they should be able to match the right product for you?

Amazing! Good job I didn't get them from America haha! Had so many companies say they'd fit too!

Well I've been looking online at all the Honda cam pulleys I can find and they either have 34 or 43 teeth so I'm a bit stuck!
Only thing I can do for the mean time is find some standard ones yay! What engines have the same pulley apart from the B20A1 ?
And where to start looking lol.

Thanks again for your help, that could've ended up bad!

Well Benny claimed those existing ones are modified F22 ones, so I think that might have to be your option again... Only with decent ones ;-)
