crankshaft snout-update 15/3/2012

Post by vanzep » Wed Mar 07, 2012 12:14 pm

Crankshaft pulley came loose - finally got the cambelt covers off so i could look at the crankshaft snout and it doesnt look good at all - its completely smooth where the pulley sits - i guess thats the end of my lude
unless there is some sort of fix that i can put in place
has anyone got any suggestions for a fix for this - threadlock or something - would that help
If i just bolt it back up tight and fit a new woodruff key wil that hold it for a while.
Cant believe this has happened days after me spending about a grand on fitting koni shocks, new lcas front and back and new wishbones and driveshaft and doing a rust treatment.
Any suggestions?

Do you mean the spline for the pulley to sit on? After the event, was the pulley free to rotate without the crank turning? Because if not and the woodruff key had kept it in sync I have no idea how the spline would have worn off.

will get some pics up in an hour or so
yup Nathan the spline that the pulley sits on is smooth - and the crank pulley was not free to rotate as it was still help in place by the woodruff key - it was just wobbling about.
type r engine?

Yeah I can't understand that then. The only way the spline can get damaged is if the pulley turned on it and sheared all the teeth off :?
