Type-S dynamic air intake INSTALLED (4th gen)

Post by bb1boy » Wed Jun 04, 2014 11:22 am

So I got around to fitting my 'new' Type-S intake with K&N filter.. and all I can say is WOW!!

I was expecting a loss of induction noise and not a lot else, if I'm honest. I was wrong.

I'm sure it doesn't help that my last Apexi cone filter was a good 5 years old and although I cleaned it regularly it was still pretty knackered and quite dirty/restrictive, because as soon as I fitted the S intake it was like driving a different car  acceleration is super smooth now, not that I noticed any particular flat spots before, but now it's just lovely and it pulls a lot harder than it used to and bottom end torque has noticeably improved.

The main thing I noticed is that running on LPG is now even better. Prior to fitting the S intake, I would've compared LPG performance and feel to running a JDM 'Lude on regular unleaded (as opposed to 99octane). Now though, I can barely notice a difference.. I'm so impressed.

Oh and the lost induction noise - well, I used to really like the sound of the Apexi working hard under acceleration, but now the noise is different, not so 'rushy', now it almost has a weird echo, the air bouncing around in that box makes quite a cool sound, I love it! :D

I would recommend this mod. I would also recommend keeping your air filter clean!

It is nice when such a simple mod makes such a difference.

I am, very :) good advice there newkid. I'll take a photo of my scruffy engine bay later providing no one gives me grief for not having a steam cleaned, sparkling engine!

Dammit, as much as I'd like to disagree with you I think you're right, this was definitely a great retro-fit mod!

I going to put the Type S intake onto my supercharger. See if it's better than what I have now. Needs retrofitting though now.

Cool, that should be ok, from what I can gather its the shape of that big box chamber that makes the difference so as long as that's in tact you should be ok..

I was so happy with my first one, on the '99, that I snagged another for the '96. It was trial and error getting it to fit though. After some head scratching I figured out that I had to use the bottom half of the 4th gen box because it is shallower than the 5th gen, so that the hood would close properly. Type-S intake with a K&N filter = 8-)

Was due to you and Ratty that I rate them so highly. Even the resonator removal I did on the old 4th gen was due to your recommendation ;)
