What 5th gen do you have?

Under acceleration or engine load, without a knock sensor you could get pinking so if the ECU detects a fault with the knock sensor, I think it goes into limp home' mode, running on basic ignition settings?
This would put you down on power and the engine might not be as smooth as it should be.

has the car had an engine swap, or is it running the original engine, do you know?

Hi guys as far as I know it hasn't had an engine swap, the car pulls well on vtec , it's a 2.2 vti slandered all round it's bugging me

What year is it? Auto or manual? Check the engine code please, if it is a VTi it should be H22a5 or H22a8.

I would reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for a minute. If the CEL comes back then odds are the knock sensor is faulty if the ECu is reporting it.

Well merl in it didn't try that what I did was pulled the fuse for the radio for 5 sec isn't that supposed to reset the ecu?

I think that only works for 4th gens, I might be wrong though.
