In the UK 5th gen the mechanical differences that give power is mainly down to pistons and cams, plus the throttle body is slightly larger.
H22a5 - 185bhp
10.1 compression ratio
60mm TB
Same cams as the H22a2 and the regular JDM H22a
H22a8 - 197bhp
11.1 compression ratio
62mm TB
Same cams as the Accord Type-R and Prelude Type-S
Short ratio gearbox (same as the ATR but without LSD)
The ECU's are different. For example the H22a8 uses a knock sensor.

And of course different maps to run them.

There is other little differences such as different PS pumps, and I think the PAS cooler is different. But they arn't performance/power related.

The downpipe and CAT are longer but the mid pipe is shorter on the H22a8. The internal diameter is still the same though.

Which means, for a bolt on low pressure turbo conversion, the H22A5 is better.
