What exhaust diameter???

Hi guys.

Sooo, I have gone and booked my lude in at our local exhaust builders, Torque Technique http://torquetechnique.co.uk/wordpress/

I had a good chat with him regarding the prelude and exhausts. I first went in there asking if he would make me a bung to shut it up a bit, but he said there really wasn't much point and that he could make one if I wanted one  . After Japfest I could swear that it has got louder and sure enough, he tested it there at 4.5k rpm and it came out at 104db   He had a look under the car and its running a mixture of 1,3/4 to 2 inch pipework . He says that opening it all up will increase the performance a lot 8-) 8-)

So we settled on a mild steel 2 and 1/4 inch system from the manifold back, a centre box, rear box and a 2 and 1/2inch outward rolled tip. Later this year/early next year, we will also be talking about custom made manifold/modding the collector on mine to suit. The system from mani back will be costing me £250 cash 8-) 8-)

Question is, what diameter are people running?? You think 2,1/4 will be enough?? Or should I ask him to make it a different diameter :? He seems to have a good amount of knowledge when it comes to engine size to exhaust size!!

Cheers chaps :D

Bigger mate.

Most aftermarket are 2.25 or 2.37 (?) IIRC but you know you're going to want more power and 2.25 will restrict too much I think.

Stock Type S h22a8 exhaust is 2.25"...
Most will go with 2.5" for performance/noise. Thats what i run.

But 3" has proven to give the best performance.

Pretty sure the H22A8 isn't 2.25 Ratty, I'm sure there was a visible difference between it and my GReddy which is 2.25 IIRC?

2.5 all day long. You can go 3 but it'll be loud and need big silencers to keep it sensible.

My 3' system is 109db after my last track day :(

3inch Japspeed on mine and even at idle it is stupidly loud, but I like scaring people with it

Surprised no-one has asked, why mild steel? I know its cheaper but doesn't make much sense to me going that route.

A semi decent mild steel exhaust should last 5 years and more with repairs. That'll easily out live most preludes :D

Thanks for the reply's guys. Yea and also cost. He wanted another £150-200 to do it in stainless. I have to keep in mind that its a budget toy, Plus i think that mild steel sounds better, but that my opinion 8-) :D
