Cold Air Intake

So,
Having seen STK's CAI, which looks the dogs, it got me thinking how to set one up on my lude but without just copying his one.
Then I remembered my old astra turbo coupe;
I miss this car some days
Anyway, had brake cooling ducts in the front lip which are a similar size to the indents in the motegi lip. Which got me thinking I could take out the fog light blanks, as I don't have any fogs, and using the space to pipe in a CAI.
What do you guys think? The CAI wouldn't be too low here would it? Also thinking could pipe in some brake cooling ducks through the motegi lip indents...

having similar thought to me then!
i was thinking either deflectors that bolt on to the wish bones, similar to that used on nsx'slike these
http://scienceofspeed.com/products/brak ... Deflector/
or a scoop like stks and hose to some diffursers onto the discs, which ok would be better for SERIOUS tracking but to be honest maybe a little OTT for our slowish, lightish car!
r33 gtr's use a similar system to the nsx's deflectors but have air directed from the bumper lip through straightish ducts which channels air onto the deflectors and thus onto the brakes!

Depends how much airflow you'd want I guess. On the astra it was all in one thing from the bottom holes through to the inside of the wheel arch with a bit similar to the nsx part within the assembly. I never tracked it to say if it was worth it or not but I know other astra coupe owners were after them so must have been worth something doing it this way and that model of astra was the 888 touring car champ a decade ago if that means anything
I think the CAI will be the first port of call, what do you think to using the fog light locations for it?

There isnt alot of room down there, im struggling to think of a route it could take
Edit - With the resonator removed there should be a way

you just need an intake in the bumper some ducting to take the air from the front and point it at the brakes all the bits are available from demontweeks or other motorsport wholesaler

hmmm, I'll have to get under it and take a look on the weekend. Could do it with a few smaller ones feeding to a larger one and into the filter. Will have to get out my engineering notes and do some sums tho
Perhaps STK's mod would be better...

Something like this might fit or be modded to fit in the foglight recess area but I am not sure if there is a direct channel from that area into the wheel arch. If you can do this I would think about putting some sort of angle/slope/ u bend on the pipe in case you are forced to go through a deep puddle (If you are going to connect it onto the filter that is) you dont want the filter drawing in water. A sure fire way to kill the engine you have been carefully building.

Hmm, very good point Barry! Perhaps cutting a spot next to the number plate a bit higher up would be better?

Possibly I like what STK did with his intake but not sure I would want to start cutting holes in the bumper etc It is something that's needs a bit of thought if the car is going to be your daily runner. Your engine's had a bit of work and killing it with something like a CAI drawing in water would be a shame.

Very very true! It is my DD so I'd rather not cut holes but don't want to kill the engine either! May just fit an induction kit down in the arch following the oem route and give it all a good heat wrapping.
