Do new unused fuel filters smell of fuel?

I've just received a Blue Print fuel filter for the 5th gen and it reaks of petrol! It even looks to have been clamped, although hard to tell for sure.

I wasn't sure if the filter requires them being saturated in fuel prior to use though :? Seems weird to me, but I just want to be sure before I say Oi! to the seller.

Already had a very apologetic reply from the seller's saying they blame the warehouse and they'll send a replacement out immediately, with no need to return the one I have.

Why they'd keep a used filter in the first place is beyond me, but at least they're sorting it.

I work for a motor factor, and we get a hell of a lot of returns. a lot of garages try their luck with returning parts that have been fitted/used to get their money back on them, and quite often it goes unnoticed thoughout the chain and ends up back on the shelf and resold.

Normally someone notices the dripping or smelly ones though!!

That's ridiculous. Do they get refused future returns there after if they get caught? :nono:

They'd obviously allowed the fuel to evaporate from this one before boxing it back up, but I got an almighty whiff as soon as I opened the jiffy bag.

Nope, the garages are pandered to by the motorfactors. its where 90% of the money comes from.

I delivered a wiper motor today, obviously you pay the price you expect something brand new.

The box had been taped up, i get to the garage and he points it out. i ask him if he wants to open it up to take a look incase he wants me to take it back. he opens it to find it has been fitted before, and the invoice to the last garage it was sent to still inside! Shocking!

Dingbro are the worst for this if you have an account with them, say there's 2 options of waterpump or timing belt, they send both out to the garage. You use the one you need and the other gets collected come bill time as returns. What alot do is if they use the more expensive one the cheaper one is put in the empty box of the more expensive one. Means come the next person ordering they end up with 2 kits that are the exact same.
