Engine over cooling after air con removal.

Does anyone else on here have a problem with over cooling, following air con removal? Or more accurately, air con rad removal. Since i removed mine a couple of years ago, i have noticed that when going down hill, even after 10 or more miles of driving, my temp guage will drop to the quarter mark on the guage, then return to normal when on flat road, or up hill!! Anyone else had this issue? I assume this is due to much better air flow to the radiator, now the air con rad is out of the way.

Sounds like your thermostat is stuck open to me?

Maybe, but i replaced this at last coolant change. I will replace it at next coolant change, which is soon. But it seems to warm up normally.

Thermostat stuck, or coolant level low/air lock in the system (the thermosensor is high up on the system, so if this only happens when going down hill, it could be coolant level related)

Could it be that your coolant temp sensor is playing up?

In my 4G track car I have the OEM temp gauge plus an analogue 52mm gauge. On the main straights when I am over 100mph I can see on the analogue gauge that coolant temps dips while the OEM digital gauge stays in its normal position.

IMO in a properly working setup for the OEM gauge to display at only a quarter the coolant temp must be really low.

Sounds like my old dc2, 2 new aftermarket thermostats and still had the same problem, eventually replaced with a genuine honda (was almost same price) and problem solved, was to do with the aftermarket ones opening at a lower temp.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys,I will give everything a good check over. But it could all be irrelevant, if my head gasket is gone, which i'm now quite concerned it could have, with the water i'm loosing. If so, that will be the end of the road for her i'm afraid.

:? That could make sense :( and would fit with my suggestion about why the gauge temp could drop on downhills...

Is this on the black one?

Yes, my black bb4. Head gasket was done in 2004, just before i bought her. But now i'm loosing coolant. Overflow bottle has dropped from max to min in about 160 miles this week, and has been doing so for about a month now. :(
