Engine rebuild kit ?

Post by F1RacerRR » Tue Oct 21, 2014 4:29 pm

Hi guys,

I have a 2000 Prelude 2.2VTi 4WS and it's just hit 80,000kms (50,000miles).

Then I had a shock absorber failure and have replaced all four of them over the weekend.
But this is not the end of my problems. I had an ignition coil fail on the day I was driving to the garage to change the shocks, so that's been replaced too.
I guess everything is creeping up at once because on the day before I was due to get the shocks done I started noticing a clacking noise in the engine which kicked in around 3,000rpm and was worse under load or acceleration.
My knowledgeable mechanic who knows Honda's inside out told me it was my big end bearings.

To make matters worse I've had this small oil leak for a while now and after an engine clean it seems I have a few coming from all different places such as the head gaskset, valve gasket, oil pump, sump and I think gearbox.

We will know more precisely on Monday when he looks at it again after the engine clean we did yesterday.

The upshot is I would like to get a full engine rebuild kit as this can kill two birds with one stone. A whole new set of gaskets and the big end shell bearings in the on pack. Plus of course vavle seals, piston rings etc..

So far I haven't been able to find any for my H22A5 BB8 engine but there are some from USA that are for H22A4 on Ebay. They do state that these are not for JDM import cars but for US import cars. (The have the std and SH Base models).
My question is will this kit fit my car or is there anywhere in UK I can buy a full engine rebuild kit ? I am in Gibraltar btw so its a LHD car.

Or am I better off buying the main gaskets all seperately and the big end bearings ?

Thanks in advance.

Also might end up with two engines for rebuilding. You never know.

IMHO if he wanna save 50kmiles car (I would) then rebuilding is the correct way. It won't be cheep but at the end of the day you know what you have under the bonet. Any seals I would buy from honda dealer (this is where I get them for my project engine). Can be also found of ebay but still I would go with OEM ones. And you have to buy them separately I'm affraid. Bearings you can get cheeper and go for performance ones.

But it's your car...
