No, it doesn't sound great...

Have you still got oil pressure ok? How many miles has it done? How warm is the engine? Is the sound there on cold start and fades away as the engine warms up?

Where abouts around the engine were you recording the noise from?
It sounds top end to me (valve clearances etc.)???

My 3g was also doing similar the last couple of times I ran it (while cold) but I know that needs a major service and the valve clearances haven't been done for at least 10 years so not surprising really!

Your last post has made me realise though... I haven't driven my 3g at night yet! :o
 It's still taxed atm, 'cause I forgot to SORN it... Might have to take it out this weekend, provided it doesn't rain! :D

Oh :-(

Its had a major service last month (cambelt, water pump etc)

Noise from main engine - under rocker cover (is that whats its called?)???

Valve clearance?
Whats that???

How much it cost for independent garage to do valves?

From pics - engine is warm!
Oil pressure? Do i have an oil pressure guage?

OMG
More costs???? :-(

Oh dear, doesn't sound too great to me, sounds very cammy. Wurly, aren't the 3g B20 A7's fitted with hydraulic tappets? I.E. no valve adjustments necessary? if that's the case, the problem may be oil starvation which has caused the cams and followers to overheat and score up.

It's all original/not welded and not rusty - and I want it to stay that way! :D

That might be a bit over dramatic?!

Hopefully, yes, but I,m hoping wayne is no longer driving the car, or has at least checked the oil level. The oil level / warning light is the extreme right hand one in the group of lights betwixt tacho and speedo. Have you checked that and oil level yet wayne?
