Infos about H22A8 engine.

Hi all :)

As some of you may know I've bought Macky's Type S to part it out.
1600km to come back home and I was already in love. Spent 5 awesome days driving it around before breaking.
French laws make registering procedure incredibly complicated and expensive for JDM cars. So I've started looking for something that would be the closest possible to the H22A red top, registerable in my country.
I've found you have the H22A8 here in UK, it seems close (or the same?) to our VTI-S engine. So what can you tell me about it ?

My main question is about differences with the H22A red top or H22A7. I've seen may be cams would be different ? Also, what about exhaust system ? I want to keep the Meercat exhaust that was on the Type S  And what gearbox comes with it ?

If you have some advice on power gains specific to this engine, let met know.

For me, it would be way cheaper than making a 3G race car as I was planing, so then I can focus on buying something where I can park a lot of cars, work on them etc.

I'll probably be looking for one at the middile of january...

I thought you could register it in France provided that you have a UK V5C? It was my understanding that this was a loophole that some use for importing older US cars into France.

IDK that much about US cars but yes, I know there's a trick to use if they have been registered in UK.
But for JDM ones it's different, it doesn't change anything. Some companies in France can take care of all the papers, modifications to do to the car so it can be registered. From 3500 to 5500€.

Not sure what your doing..

What's wrong with the TypeS engine?

The Type S and h22a8 are the same engine inside. The blocks and head are different but internally the same. Gearbox are different and not interchangeable.

Nothing wrong with the Type S engine, it's sold now.

I just wante a H22A8 Lude to keep it for me :) So if those engines are internaly the same, I imagine the 20hp difference comes from the ECU ?

Plus the exhaust (cylindrical manifold and 2.25") and the higher RON fuel.

Other little differences will be like 50mm (Type-S) Vs 55mm (H22a8) crank, but like Ratty says they are very alike.

I was regurgitating info from Rich
Buzzonion Vtec wrote:Yeah 50mm mains for Type-S, A4 and A5 5th gens as well as all 4th gens. None of the H22s got 55mm mains until the A8 and A7. The one thing I don't know for sure is whether or not the last of line H22a S-Spec (Type S) engines got updated with 55mm mains. My bet is that they didn't.
