Well sad news, I thought I would take the lude to santapod to see what she would run. I had 5 good runs with the quickest being a 14.9, which I thought was not bad.
It was all good fun until I dropped her into 4th as I crossed the line, the was a bid crunch a rattle and the the engine died, so I free wheels to the end and got out to take a look befor I turned her over again. Looking under the bonnet, there were no oil spots all looked normal and the oil was a nice golden colour still. The only thing was the was a bit of smoke coming from under the air intake, and a strong smell of clutch.
So I got back in the car and pumped the clutch which still felt fine. And she sloted into every gear. So I tried to to turn her over and she did not want to do that at all. She tried to for a milli sec and then said no. Felt like she has seized. It was confirmed by us to trying to jump her as soon as we raised the clutch the car stopped dead.
Not sure if it's the clutch in so many pieces that it jammed the flywheel or if it's the gear box or God help me the engine. . I'm going to take the bell housing off at weekend to see what's happening. Any input or adice would be appreciated.
Wish me luck :?

really gutted mate :(
can you hear the fuel pump prime after 3/4 turn of the key?
if so, does it try and start or just "tick" and deny you?

That sucks Lee :( I think until you have it apart there's no point in trying to guess what's happened. It needs to come apart either way (Whether you're going to fix it or whether it's just for piece of mind to know what happened). It could be gearbox/clutch, it could be bottom end if your bearings are screwed or top end if your belt has done one. :? No point speculating, I just hope it's rectifiable and not too expensive :(

Before splitting the box etc. put in neutral and try turning the engine over from the crank pulley bolt by hand.
If that's no good, take the plugs out and try again.
I wouldn't think engine by the sounds of it, more likely the box...

Do you mean it just spins freely without the usual chugging? That sounds like a lack of compression and could be the cambelt.

Not suggesting you try it now, but did you try it in reverse as well?
