Bouncing idle

Post by Gayno » Wed Apr 04, 2012 9:09 pm

Since getting the car going again, I've noticed the idle rises and falls every so often. It can do it just a couple of times or it will just keep going. Also somehow seem related to the brakes. I've taken a video, the car doesn't actually sound as rought as in the video, so don't worry about that!!

Yeah should be as we did this couple of weeks ago as there was none in the bottle and there was non visible in the rad cap, so we topped up and bled the system through.

Suppose it won't hurt to do it again to check.

Is there more than one place to bleed, other than the bleed valve on the thermostat?

Well the car has run fine in the 2 years I've had it. It's been off the road unused for the last 6 months, now back on and it's started!

mine was the same m8. the guy i bought it from said it was used as daily runner and he never had a problem.
it was parked up in his back garden for about 6 to 7 months he charged the battery up and stuck on 1 new tyre and took it for mot and that is when the hunting started. she ran fine the vtec was fine but sat a traffic lights on test drive she was bouncing from 500rpm to a 1500rpm but if you reved her by hand and let go of the throttle body she would hunt but if you turned back the throttle about a mm she stopped hunting (if that makes sence) so the rest position of throttle was wrong. worth a look maybe.

If you watch the vid, at about 45 seconds you hear me press the brake a few times and it then seems to start it off.
