Exhaust help

Hi guys, I purchased a PLM manifold for my prelude awhile back, prelude is now if the road having all the parts I have been collecting fitted. Is there anywhere I can buy the bit needed to join my new manifold to my decat pipe? Or do I need to take it to be custom made? Cheers.

Unless you can weld and have access to the materials required it will definitely be easier for you to just take the header to a decent custom exhaust fabricator and simply ask them to make it fit.

You'd be lucky if you can find the correct flange to weld on and then you'll need the correct diameter pipe to extend the downpipe (if it doesn't need shortening). Also, you might need to reduce the size of the downpipe diameter or even enlarge it, depending on what you've already got, and ideally you want to avoid any stepping.

I did think I would have to take it somewhere, what do you mean by might have to shorten the down pipe? I have a standard manifold on it now going to a decat then a custom exhaust.

Not all Preludes have the same exhaust components. Depending on the model of Lude you have you probably need some modification to the exhaust to get it to fit. Also you may need to have a little bit of metal removed from the front sub frame.

Have a read of Vanzep's experiences with the PLM http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/post102151.html#p102151

The length of your new PLM downpipe will likely be the wrong length (Non-flanged for you to cut down to length or extend). It's basically a customizable header also used for other H22 conversions.

You never know, it might be the perfect length to just weld a flange on and bolt up, but unlikely.

Also, you're aware part of the front cross member needs to be notched for clearance?

Thanks guys, my manifold is identical to his, why does the manifold come in a number of bits? Instead of just one piece? I will see if jp exhaust will do it for me they did a awesome job on my exhaust.

If it was one-piece (ie. manifold and downpipe in one) then it would be an engine out or radiator/possibly cross member out job. It's just much easier to fit in two or three pieces.

Makes sense, I should of used my brain before asking a stupid question lol, thanks for the help.
