Clutch troubles

Post by Ludey » Wed Jun 17, 2015 8:29 pm

Hi all, thanks in advance for any input.

I was driving my 4th gen 2.2 this morning when with no warning went to change gear and the clutch pedal stayed down tried the old pull it up with the foot which works put then putting the clutch down again it stays down and I can't engage any gears.checked the clutch fluid level it's empty , look on the road / under the engine there's no leaks from the car , the clutch pedal lever has what appears to be a small amount of fluid on it .so I try topping up the clutch fluid levels And pumping the clutch pedal the level goes down Next to zero / a half hearted air bubbles worth.upon doing this I perform The look on the floor for fluids trick and sure enough there's now a puddle of oil coming from coming from the gearbox /engine mounting towards the front end of the engine under what I think is the air bleed valve for the clutch fluid I could be wrong but the leaks coming from a bolt under that random valve.

So with your wealth of experience what do you think could be the problem there ? Is it just a seal for the gearbox /engine mounting or somthing more sinister thats going to result in a expensive quote being rejected and another prelude killed ? Thanks again for any help

Clutch slave cylinder. Easy job to change, couple of bolts. Remove it and check the dustboot for leaks.

the slave cylinder is connected by pipe to the master cylinder when you push the pedal it pushes fluid from the master cylinder through the pipe to the slave cylinder that pushes a rod that moves the clutch fork that presses the clutch bearing against the pressure plate that releases the flywheel from the grip of the friction plate

Ahh ok thanks , I knew you would be as reliable as ever.now whats worrying is that I thought The slave cylinder was another component all together and that at the front was just a bleed valve.

Next question anyone In Portsmouth armed with a clutch slave fancy earning £100 ?
