Identify my hole please!

Post by polgster » Thu Jul 09, 2015 9:10 pm

Always new I had an oil leak for a while and finally took a look underneath after filling and noticing a splodge of oil on my drive and found the hole (highlighted below) that was missing a bolt directly above where the oil was. Can someone identify whether this would be atf or oil. I managed to find a bolt that fitted but I've no idea why it was missing!

looks like its on the gearbox buddy but you should be able to smell the difference between atf and engine oil

Thought it was the gearbox, thanks for confirming but it didnt stink like atf and my atf level is fine so wondering whether the missing bolt is a red herring. Will have to have a dig around the engine bay in the light tomorrow.

oil will travel from the original leak so much so it could come from anywhere  clean it all off run the car for ten minutes or so and recheck it could be the engine main rear seal if its a really bad leak or it could be a trickle from the vtec solenoid/rocker gasket
