VTEC flat spot?

This morning on the way to work, I engaged vtec just after brimming the tank and it engaged vtec fine but then as it was going through the rev range I hit a flat spot and the engine started vibrating and making unhealthy noises.
I then tried to recreate the problem and it did it again, but it does not do it every time, seems intermittent, and the place in the rev range where it happens also is not consistent.
Oil level is fine, no warning lights, no smoke. Any ideas?

Which is fine. When you say engine started vibrating and making unhealthy noises, what do you mean? Can you describe that a bit more?

You could feel the vibration in the car and the vtec noise disappeared and was replaced with a sort of rumbling. Was it a total coincidence that I had just brimmed the tank? Could the vtec solenoid be at fault? I will see what it is like on the drive home later.

Well apart from the two times on the way to work yesterday I have not been able to recreate this again.
The only thing that was different is that the tank was brimmed, to the point where the fuel started to come out of the cap as I was putting it in because the pump was naff.
Maybe it was some crap fuel or something. I will keep an eye on it but all seems ok now

if you had brimmed the tank and then tried to vtec it wouldnt the fuel pump have an issue pumping the fuel back to the tank?
