Are the h22a cams the same as the a7/a8?

Would there be little to any gain on using them on my h22a5 engine? My head says yes but there's always that worry....

A7/8, type-s and s-spec all have the better cams.

All the rest have the same cams.

Yup only the red top 11:1 comp engines have the more aggressive cams. I doubt you will see much gain unless you have a tunable ECU. With 5th gens is it not worth the hassle of modding unless have a tunable ECU.

I do but won't have it chipped for a while

Only reason I'd take it would be for cams tbh lol
If they're not much better than mine I might as well just buy skunk2 camz

The red top cams will be fine up to mid 240's going by results from other people on here.

Only the ATR (H22a7), 99+ UK 5th gen (H22a8), Type-S (H22a) and S-SPEC (H22a) are red tops (11:1 comp, aggressive cams, 62mm TB).

All other engines are black tops, UK engines 4th gen VTEC (H22a2) & 97-98 manual + 97-00 auto (H22a5) (10:1 comp, normal cams, 60mm TB) and all other JDM engines be it 4th or 5th gen (H22a) (10.6:1 comp, normal cams, 60mm TB)

What's the easiest way to find out if a head is redtop or black then?
Besides rocker cover lol, everyone repaints those

Is there a production date on head somewhere?

From the sound of all these threads you make trying to get more power as cheap as possible I suggest you leave the engine and concentrate on the gearbox and flywheel.

Far far far bigger difference to speedy quickness. And cheaper.

Pretty much haha, I want more go as that's the main reason for selling.

So a lightened flywheel (fidanza) and ATR box would be a better purchase than cams and map?
