Hi guys sorry if this has been asked before but I know there's a lot of knowledgeable people on here, I want to know what's the best engine oil to use for my prelude. Don't want to be sticking the wrong oil in her lol

She's a 1998 2.2 VTI Manual if that helps, thanks!

10w40 is the best all round oil for a standard H22a engine. I personally use Millers CFS fully synthetic. On eBay it's currently under £50 for 5 litres which is pretty good :)

Also, as another member posted on here the other day, you can get a Hamp filter for £6 plus postage from H-tune at the moment. They come well recommended. Go for a shortie to slightly increase your oil pressure.

I've been advised by a reputable Honda VTEC garage that I should use the above for my h22a8 ( 127k miles), and not 10w40. Which has always confuzzled me because that's the opposite of what you all advise.
p.s Opie oils have a good deal on the above too :D

Be careful with running any 5w40 oil on a non-rebuilt h22a with old oil pump. There have been a good 4 or 5 oil pump failures on the forum (although fortunately not for a while), all had not long before switched to 5w40 oil (including mine).

I always used 5w40 in my bb1 for 11yrs of ownership. I found it circulated quicker on cold starts and prevented the momentary top end rattle I used to get on 10w40. I can't think how it would cause oil pump failure though.

Hmm, interesting, mixed answers, the engine I have I believe is a h22a5. Anyways it's completely standard nothing has been touched on it, I think I'll go with the 10w40 when I get paid next week.
