Hi all,
we're almost finished the restoration on our 93 jap 4th gen with f22 nonvtec engine and was quiet happy with it until a h22 vtec engine fell into my lap and now i'm thinking about rebuilding this engine an eventually fitting it. I have a few questions:

1. Is it worth the hassle, there is nothing wrong with the current engine and car is running fine. If the answer to this is "no" then I can stop wrecking my head thinking about it and just enjoy the car as is.
2. Besides the engine, ecu and loom, what else needs replacing.
Gearbox?
Drives?
Hubs?
Distributor?
Mounts?

I would be very greatfull to anyone who can give me advise or has undertaken a similler project.
Regards Enda.

will just drop in nothing to change except maybe an upgrade to the brakes to the vtec size discs and calipers

the F22 is a decent engine but vtec is vtec

F22 block is good for a turbo build apparently ;)
the H22 will give you about 30 to 40 more bhp
the BA8 chassis is quite light
sure the F22/H22 manual gearboxes, hubs, driveshafts are all interchangeable

Thanks for the info,
What about the electrical side , what ecu should I get and can I add the extra wiring for the vtec or do I need to replace the loom?

you can use the f22 loom but you would have to run wiring for the vtec other than that you just need a 4g jdm ecu

Hi enda drax is wright in saying I have just done the similar swop all tho I put it in a 5th gen. The engine it self is a straight swop one out one in mounts an every thing related to bolting it in are the same. My problems came with more things not compatible between the 4th an 5th than I realised lol but you won't have the same ishoos. VTEC is way the better option other that boosting it but that's a faff.I have a complete engine loom up to the fire wall and a JDM p13 ecu for sale if you need then can pug the VTEC straight in. Hope helped look forward to seeing the results
