Despite the fact that my 92 bb4 has gone through the last 6 m o t''s without a cat, on saturday it failed for not having a cat fitted. I explainnd to the garage that it has not had one fitted for past 6 years (different garage to previous years). They said the laws have now changed, and it must have a cat fitted. Is anyone aware of this, or had similar experience? Or were they just giving me a load of bull?

I think if it originally had one then it has to have one

I think that is a load of guff. While that might be correct for a uk car or a JDM car with the same chassis type as a uk car the bb4 is not on the not testers database so he does not know that the car had a cat from the factory.

It will still be a non cat test. My bb4 only passed its mot 5 weeks ago,

Ok, so is that a new rule? Since it has passed before, with no issue.

Yeah, but you could tell a fib and just say the original section rotted out, and you could only a UK mid section that needed a decat to be the right length... You'd be unlucky to find a tester who knows 4th gen ludes well enough to call your bluff

Had mine tested the other day. It's decat'd but I provide the cat. It passed without him fitting the cat because the emissions were low enough without it. A lot dies depend on the MOTer, but that guy you've used got it wrong.

Yes, the rule changed last year I believe to say if it had one fitted in factory, it MUST have one fitted to pass, regardless of if it passes the emissions test without it.

The non requirement for pre-'92 rule still applies though
