Driveshafts wont seperate from the hub

Post by vanzep » Sun Jun 19, 2016 5:58 pm

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered any problems getting the driveshafts out from the front hubs?

I went to change the driveshafts today and the hub nut and lca and fork bolt came off no problem but for some reason we couldnt get the shafts to pull out from the hubs - same story for both sets of shafts :?

So used loads of penetrating/&freeze spray and a sledgehammer still wouldnt budge so off with the hub and into the press - still no joy :|

Can you heat it?

You can put a lot of "wd40" ( or similar) a let it wait one day or two, and then try again to remove it...

So, good luck!

Your hammer wasn't big enough or you handle it like a pansy.
Be all Scottish about it and give it a great big whack.

I'm sorry for you, really :?

I have a tool for that, it is bolted on the Wheel stud, with a big "screw" on the center.
You bolt the tool on the the hub and then you push out the cv joint with the big screw...

If it can help you, i can take you a picture ;)

ive seen that sports car breakers have a BA8 at newbridge so that could be a back up plan ;)

the driver side wheel stud is fairly mashed up so dont think any tool will fit on...

We were hitting this with an 8lb slrdge hammer then had it in a hydraulic press with about 10 tons of presuure on it.

There was also enough releasing fluid sprayed on it that the taste of it is tainting my maltesers
