H22 Cambelt whinning noise - New Blue Print Timing Kit

Hello All,

So I have just cured my prelude from a failed auto tensioner, however after getting it back from the garage I have noticed the cambelt is whinning as if the belt is too tight?

I fitted another auto tensioner sourced from @h10ndr (Thank you once again bud) so it cant be too tight right?

The garage and a friend of mine said its probs just the new belt, it needs to slacken off abit, I have driven the car maybe a couple of miles since getting it back, barely a trip to the shops to be fair on 2 occasions. I havent ragged the car but im pretty sure I dont have any loss in power which ive read can be due to the belt being too tight.

Im pretty sure its the timing belt not the aux belts as I used the old ones as they wernt changed too long ago.

Everything else is fine and its cured the slack timing belt issue, but this whinning does worry me and wondered if anyone else have experienced this after a timing belt change with an auto tensioner?

I replaced the following just for the record:

1x Blue Print ADH27527 TIMING BELT
1x Blue Print ADH27506 BALANCE SHAFT BELT
1x Blue Print ADH27615 TIMING BELT TENSIONER BEARING (This one is just the big bearing)
1x Blue Print ADH27616 TIMING BELT TENSIONER BEARING (Bearing mounted on bracket)
1x Blue Print ADH29125 Water Pump inc. Gasket
Serviced and known working auto tensioner

Any advise would be appreciated :)

Is it the noises that sounds like a faint super charger?

Yeah, mine does that since I had a new Gates belt fitted. I've got a modified H23 Manual Tensioner fitted, so it's not too tight. Still makes the noise though. I actually like the noise and as I've heard a few make the noise now I'm not worried. Some bearings just make the noise.

Always remember when I used to be into skater hockey and used to replace wheels and bearings all the time. Quite often the ones that ran the smoothest and longest made that whiney noise ;)

I had this and it turned out to be the balancer belt. Garage adjusted that and the noise was gone.

I had my timing belt kit done not long ago all blue print parts and it is whinning all the time.it was a completely different engine sound from when it went into the garage.i just replaced the auto tensioner for another auto one aswell

My friends ep3 always whinned so I Guessed it wasn't done incorrectly.

Yes this is due to balancer shaft belt being too tight. Easy fix.

Shall I drive the car for a while to see if it loosens it and goes away?

The whine should go after a few thousand miles.

It's up to yourself man, it's not going to cause any issues either way it doesn't have to be over tightend by much. If you look down at your timing covers you'll see a capped 14mm nut sticking out, some people get away with slackening that, turning the crank over by hand (pushes the tensioner up) and then retightening. But for me I pull the crank pulley off and the covers :)
