No hint of any problem. Parked up to pick my son up then it wouldn't start. Turns over fine, plenty of fuel but no spark. Cleaned the cap and rotor arm, checked power to the distributor, all fine. Nothing more to be done by the side of the road so...

off for some serious investigation.

Nope, nothing done since last service, 3,000 miles ago. Everything sweet then dead. I'm thinking a coil...

Coil or igniter in the dizzy would be my punt.
The only genuine break down I've had in 15 years of lude ownership was the igniter, though saying that when I opened the bonnet, one of the HT leads had come off so that was probably the actual culprit :?

You can buy them separately, but I'd decide that based on the age and condition of your dizzy, just my 2ps worth and this is the reason:-

Agreed - Ignitor is def. the weak link in the chain and would give the symptoms you have. Please report back!

Main relay? Did you try to start the car once it had cooled down?

Thanks for the suggestions. I've not had a chance to look further but yes I tried to start it again the following day. Main relay was replaced last summer. Coil/igniter sounds likely.

There are signs that the distributor is on the way out so I've sourced a complete new one from Daytonagblimited for £145.83. Should be good to get me to uber high mileage :D
