So my Lude is in the garage finally for a new cambelt. Delay one it needed a new pulley. Two weeks later(this tuesday ) the car was taken away with a "you will have it back later to day or tomorrow morning") Delay two. This morning I rang him and was told "I can't get the sodding pulley off! but I will and you should have it back this afternoon!"He asked who did it last time and I said you 13 years ago! Is it that sodding difficult for a garage with all the equipment to do this?
I have been quoted a firm £250 including all parts and I don't need the car at the moment so that is fine. Is there a trick to getting this pulley off or is it just brute strength?

yeh that's what I have + 3 foot breaker bar with a six foot scaffolding pole over the top of it. Both the breaker bar and pole bend sometimes

I locked the thing in place with the above tool and a breaker bar resting against the ground, then using a jack to support the pivot point and a couple of extensions connected to another breaker bar with a 2ft scaffold pole on the end of it. If i can do it on my drive with no help i dont understand why your garage is having trouble with it.

That's what I do except I use breeze blocks instead of a Jack. But I remember now I had to take the engine mount off on that side to lower the engine and the pulley.

Yeah i didn't do that i just sliced 10mm off the end of the tool so it fit in without lowering the engine

I use a 1/4” Ratchet

you can remove it without the tool if you are dismantling the entire engine - recently on a b16a2 i used a long ratchet extension to brace the crank counterweights against the block (so the crank couldnt spin) , then use a 3ft breaker bar on the nut itself.

Ideally would have used an impact gun, and work against the inertia of the crank rather than bracing it but hey ho its off now...
