Cold engine will not get past 2kRPM

Hi,

1998 h22a.

At cold or near as dammit cold the engine won't rev out past 1.5-2k RPM. Happened a coupled of times. I've got no codes and know the engine light is working.

Heard the EGR valve might be involved with something like that. I've tried removing the EGR valve but the bloody nuts were on so tight I didn't want to break the studs.

I don't want to rev the tits off it from cold. I just want to at least get moving. I live in a kind of cul de sac that merges onto a somewhat busy street so it's a tad annoying in the morning sometimes.

When this happens, which as I said isn't all the time, if I depress the clutch and rev, it'll rev out past what it was getting stuck at. Which seems strange but whatever.

Aside from cleaning the EGR valve. What can I try?

I want to stress I have no engine light on.

Try resetting it anyway.

So in neutral you can rev it fine, but when in gear/engine on load it won't rev past 2k, have I got that right?
And that's only while cold?
How warm does it have to get before it sorts itself out?

You've got it bang on yeah.

Usually only takes around 5-10 minutes of driving to sort itself out. Barely even up on the the temperature gauge.

Quick update. As i mentioned it doesnt do it all the time but I've just had a few errands to do and I was driving say 30km stopping for 15-20 minutes and setting off again. Not sure if that narrows anything down but it happens much more often when using the car like that.

Here today in Poland it's around 4-6c. It'll be in the negative pretty soon, would like to know if this is strictly related to temperature or something else.

Thanks drax, will check those if the 5th gen has them. In my classic mini I've had issues with the iacv and the symptoms were completely different. Different car altogether though!

Hey probably a stupid question but information on the internet is spotty around this and the prevalence of US prelude forums doesn't help but are the European preludes equipped with anything like odb2 ports?
