I suspect that my oil pressure switch is leaking oil (which is dripping onto the exhaust), so I've got a replacement (it's a known issue allegedly). I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not I need to drain the oil first ? After all, the oil pressure switch is located under the oil filter on the engine, so surely if I remove it, oil will leak out? Or am I not understanding how the oil pressure switch works ?
I watched a video of someone replacing one of these switches on Youtube, but he didn't say anything about draining the oil first.

I'd say as long as your quick about the changeover once the current one is loose, you'll be ok

You will get a minor oil leak but it's above the sump so it's literally just a little bit that's left in the gallery.
No need at all to dump the oil first.

As above, I've done it before. Also check the oil filter area above it for leaks, it's more common and could actually be the issue.......

Yep, that's a good point, had forgotten

Very likely to be the oil cooler seal that has gone, rather than the oil pressure switch.
It's a job that's been fairly well covered on the forum, probably in the wiki. If not, then I know I did a write up in the profile for Lisa's lude (link in my signature to that profile).

When I replaced the oil filter and flushed the oil, i gave it a bit of a clean underneath, and it seems the leak is from the oil pressure sensor and likely also the vtec solenoid gasket. Got a new oil pressure switch and got the gasket on order. Already done the head gasket, which was also perished.

replaced the oil pressure switch and gave a bit of a clean around the oil filter and switch.
A little bit of oil did come out when I removed the existing switch, but that's probably because I had the car jacked up at the front quite high, with the rear still on the ground. If it had been level, then I doubt any would have come out.
Simple enough job. Thanks y'all. Will keep an eye on the oil leak and if it persists, then the o ring will be the next bit to replace (as well as the vtec solenoid gasket which is on order from H-Tune)
